Alcohol-induced liver disease is a medical condition that refers to liver damage due to excessive alcohol consumption. It is a common but preventable disease. Alcohol-induced liver disease is a major public health problem in the United States because between 8 and 10 percent of Americans drink heavily. Most people who drink moderately will not develop this condition. Moderate drinking is one drink a day for women and two drinks a day for men. This applies to otherwise healthy people. In those with chronic liver disease, even small amounts of alcohol can make the condition worse.
