Common conclusions

Your lizard doesn't show any sign of metabolic bone disease (MBD).

Your lizard shows one common sign of metabolic bone disease (MBD). Since the metabolic bone disease is one of the most common diseases in reptiles it cannot be ruled out just because only one clinical sign is observed. If you suspect that your pet is unwell you should take it to the exotics veterinarian for a check-up. A veterinarian will often diagnose the metabolic bone disease based on an animal’s clinical signs, diet, and access to ultraviolet-B light; X-rays and/or blood work, including measurements of calcium levels, may also be necessary.

Your lizard shows several common signs of metabolic bone disease (MBD). The metabolic bone disease usually develops when dietary levels of calcium or vitamin D are too low and phosphorous levels are too high. Take your pet to the exotics veterinarian for a check-up. A reptile that is only mildly affected by the metabolic bone disease will usually completely recover with dietary improvements, calcium and vitamin D supplements, and greater access to full-spectrum ultraviolet light. More severe cases require calcium and vitamin D injections, oral supplements, fluid therapy, and nutritional support.
